I eat a lot of hummus, and I never hold back from it. The classic ingredients for hummus are super healthy:
Chickpeas – tons of fiber and folate
Seasame Seeds (tahini) – tons of copper, magnesium, and calcium
Garlic – great for your cardio health, plus good for warding off all sorts of bacteria and viruses
Lemon – vitamin c!
I wish I could say that I’ve found a really good national brand of hummus, but I haven’t. They all seem to skimp on the tahini and just get the overall flavors wrong. I recommend getting hummus at your local Mediterranean or Middle Eastern restaurant, if possible. That way, you can know what good hummus tastes like before you experiment with making it at home.
